Forgive me for trying to make my own cake
In my attempts to prove I am a great mom, I decided to make my daughter's second birthday cake. I found this really easy recipe/instructions on how to make a castle cake. Couple of square cakes, some sugar cones covered in icing and colored sugar, some other small decorations, icing. Piece of cake, literally and figuratively, right?? Wrong. My wonderful friend who, after three beers, swore to me the cake was straight. Turned out, almost as straight as she is (left her husband for a woman). And my attempt to be fancy and have chocolate and vanilla layers backfired seriously, as the chocolate cake started to crumble as I was trying to ice it with white icing.
But I ended up with a slightly leaning castle with a white and chocolate crumb stucco finish, with pink pointed towers. The kids loved the pink coated cones and everyone was polite and said the cake was good tasting, even if it did lean a little.
My first and last attempt at a birthday cake. Thank goodness for Giant Eagle.
